With the advent of demand-driven funding universities are struggling to find ways to make their own institution stand out from the others in the minds of students. This outcome-focused workshop will stimulate the creative thinking of participants to generate a range of ideas to meet The Innovation Challenge. Using a set of simple yet scientifically based techniques people will work both individually and within groups to brainstorm, short-list and flesh out ideas. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to stimulate their creative thinking as well as take with them ideas that may form the basis for their own breakthrough solutions for their university.
The workshop will be facilitated by Carol Harding who is an experienced university administrator having worked in a number of areas at UTAS over the past 13 years. She is Deputy Director of the Australian Innovation Research Centre and researches innovation within the higher education sector. Carol also runs Innoversities Pty Ltd, a company devoted to driving innovation within the sector.

This workshop is for those who are leading (or want to lead) innovation in their workplace. It will take participants through the first phase of innovation – idea generation. This creative phase is sometimes referred to as the ‘the fuzzy front-end’. But there’s nothing ‘fuzzy’ about this workshop! Using the latest scientific findings this workshop will stimulate your innovative thinking whilst debunking some widely held views about brainstorming and idea generation.
This practical, hands-on workshop is designed for those of you who want to become more effective at producing better ideas and solutions and increasing the creativity of those you work with. You will also learn how to set up the best working environment to stimulate creativity as well as taking away a set of tools for day-to-day problem solving.
