The new $47.5 million facility features two floors of exhibition space, two educational activity areas, an auditorium, a café and wine bar, two retail outlets, a Sculpture Garden and underground parking.
The name ‘Te Puna’ honours waipuna, the well spring (the actual artesian spring on the site) and ‘Waiwhetu’ refers to one of the tributaries in the immediate vicinity, which flows into the Avon River. ‘Waiwhetu’ may also be translated as ‘water in which stars are reflected’.
Through purchases, bequests and donations, the Gallery’s collection now totals over 5,500 items, including paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, glass, metalwork and photography. The collections gallery is divided into three periods - historical, 20th century and contemporary, some of which will be available for viewing during the welcome reception.

A Boogie Woogie Bash - A Celebration of the 1940’s The 1940s were a tumultuous time, the early years hurled the world into war and the post war years celebrations brought on the birth of the Baby Boom. Women watched the home front while the men were away, and welcomed them home with a new sense of freedom. Fashion, music and dance were upbeat and fun, Frank Sinatra and the Brat Pack roamed Vegas in Zoot Suits, the Andrews Sisters Boogie Woogie music entertained the troops and the roots of Rock & Roll were just beginning to take shape.
For this celebration of the 1940’s at the Airforce Museum, get into the swing of this pivotal era; wear military memorabilia, snappy suits, padded shoulders, trim waists and ‘victory red’ lipstick.
The cost of the Conference Dinner is included in the cost of a full registration. Additional guests can be booked at a cost of $150.00.

Riccarton House was founded by the Deans family in 1856. The original cottage (restored and in the grounds today) was built in 1843 and was the first European building on the Canterbury Plains. Robbie Deans, the famous coach of the Crusaders Super 14 rugby team, and now the Wallabies coach, is a direct descendant of the family.
You can find out more about the house, dining room and grounds below, or from their website. www.riccartonhouse.co.nz
